Toys for Tots is a military founded organization that began many years ago with a single military family wanting to bring the joy of holiday cheer to every girl, boy, mother, father, grandparents and everyone in between. Over the years, the organization has grown exponentially to consist of a workforce of thousands of people who volunteer their time during the busy holiday season to make the world a little bit better for themselves and the less fortunate.
Michelle Obama’s participation in the event is spent the same as any other volunteers time would be spent, simply organizing all of millions of toys that are collected for the Toys for Tots organization. The organization comprises of mostly separating “girl” toys from “boy” toys and into proper age groups.
Every year, says Michelle Obama, there is a shortage on toys for the older group of kids, the 12-15 age range. Michelle states that it is always enticing to reach for the teddy bear or the doll, but the truth is, there are plenty of older kids in their early teens that need gifts too. Michelle recommended things that her teenagers would like, such as something cute to wear, books, backpacks, school supplies, things of that nature.
In addition to volunteering her time to the Toys for Tots organization, she, as well as Jill Biden, donated over 900 toys to the foundation to help as many children as she possibly can. And, when Michelle Obama does something, America follows. Way to set a great example Michelle!
